When it is the moment to be close to the Lord, you many expect to see him appear in Spirit to humanity. Now, is this the correct path to receive the Lord? Job said, "I have heard of You only by hearsay, but now my eyes see You" because he heard the voice of Jehovah in the storm (Job 42:5). Peter also listened to the voice of the Lord Jesus and thus recognized him as Christ. Here it is evident that, no matter how God appears to people, they can only verify that, indeed, it is the appearance of God when they hear His Voice. Hearing God's voice is the only way to witness his appearance and receive the Lord's return.
Ways to listen to God's voice
Reading the Bible
One essential way that God uses to speak to us today is through His written Word. So, the Bible is the first place we should turn to hear God's voice. Through the Bible, we can learn about the character of God and how He communicates. As the written Word of God, the Bible is alive, active, and valuable to us (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3: 16–17).
When we feel that God is speaking to us, we must be sure that what we hear is according to the Bible. For example, if we think that God is prompting us to do something, but it contradicts the Bible, that message is not from God.
If we want to hear God's voice, it is crucial that we feel close to Him. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27). These are the sheep that hear and recognize his voice because they know Him as his Shepherd. If we want to hear God's voice, we must follow Him and be close to our Saviour.
Praying is an excellent way to feel closer to God. It is better if you have this particular time only with Him. If you close your bedroom door and no one is around, you will feel His Presence. In Matthew 6:6, Bible says: "But when you make your prayer, go into your private room, and, shutting the door, say a prayer to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward." Sometimes we can feel that God is not talking to us, but if we stay quiet, we can hear His Voice in the middle of silence.
Listening other people
God uses people to transmit faith to us. He uses small events in our lives to make us discover His plan. He uses people and events close to each one to show us the path we have to follow. Therefore, we have to be very attentive. We should not care so much about the messenger as the message that He transmits to us because God also speaks through them and each day's events in our lives.
Meditating in the Holy Word
We must have time to think about God's Word. It is not enough to read the Bible; we also have to meditate about it. If we have a particular moment during the day or the week to think about what God has to say, indeed, we will hear what He wants to transmit. This intimacy is essential to get a stronger connection with our Christ.
